Whisky and Watches
Dr. R.J. Kamatovic raises a glass in support of men’s health—both physical and mental—at this Movember Foundation evening affair on November 22.
By Dr. R.J. Kamatovic
Every November, men across the globe let their moustaches grow—some for the first time, many for the 20th—united under the iconic banner of the Movember Foundation. For me, Movember is not just a month of playful moustache cultivation, but a movement that holds profound personal meaning. My passion for the Movember Foundation is rooted in its unwavering commitment to tackling some of the most pressing issues in men’s health: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
Conversations about men’s health are still shrouded in stigma, and too often, men are encouraged to “tough it out” in silence rather than seek support or routine screenings. The consequences are dire: men die an average of six years earlier than women, and too many lives are lost to preventable causes. Movember’s work inspires me because it challenges this silence, raises critical funds, and sparks open, honest conversations that can save lives.
As a doctor, I never feel more powerless than when learning about a suicide that nobody saw coming. Often, men show no signs, give no clues and will act impulsively, violently and fatally. Movember not only provides a community and a platform for encouraging men to share what they keep hidden, but also funds the research needed to understand the unique neurohormonal pathology underlying the suicidal actions. Whether it’s recognizing signs that we didn’t know indicated depression or gaining new insights into pharmacotherapy, Movember empowers us all to be part of the solution.
The Whisky & Watches fundraising event started as a small gathering of watch collectors for a whisky tasting and has evolved into an annual men’s lifestyle event. This isn’t a charity; it’s a celebration of mutual support for a community whose struggles often go unrecognized. This unique evening blends fine whisky and exquisite watches into an unforgettable experience in support of the Movember Foundation. Whether you’re a connoisseur or simply curious, you’ll enjoy tasting exceptional whiskies and exploring a curated selection of watches, all while mingling with a passionate community committed to making a difference. Made possible through corporate support and sponsorship, the event isn’t just about indulgence; it’s about impact. Every ticket, every sip, and every shared story helps raise critical funds for Movember’s vital programs. You can purchase a ticket by making a direct donation to Movember through my fundraising page, so every cent goes to the charity directly.
By coming together for Whisky and Watches, we’re not only celebrating craftsmanship and camaraderie, but also championing a future in which men feel empowered to seek help and take charge of their health.
On November 22, join me in raising a glass and supporting a cause that saves lives. Together, we can help change the face of men’s health, one moustache (and one memorable night) at a time. For details on attending the event or being a sponsor, contact WhiskyWatches25@outlook.com.
