Couture With Purpose

Drawing on her Persian heritage and architectural training, Ladan Fazel designs couture gowns that celebrate confidence, craftsmanship, and modern femininity.

Fashion designer Ladan Fazel of Lafalux Couture found her first muse not on a runway, but in a childhood doll. “Her name was Rose,” Fazel recalls. When she was seven, her father brought the doll home to Iran after a trip to the United States. With the help of her mother, a skilled seamstress, Fazel delighted in designing custom outfits for her cherished companion, unknowingly laying the foundation for a future in fashion.

Today, many women in the know call Fazal when they’re searching for custom bridal, evening, or couture gowns that make them feel bold, confident, and beautiful. She founded Lafalux Couture in 2020 after immigrating to Canada from Iran, where pursuing a career in fashion was not considered a viable path. Instead, she studied architecture—another discipline grounded in structure, proportion, and beauty—and now brings that same precision to her work, crafting garments with an architect’s eye for balance and form. Each design is carefully engineered to support, flatter, and empower the woman wearing it.

Lafalux brings Middle Eastern glamour to North America, blending couture craftsmanship with a commitment to inclusivity. “Our prices are very competitive,” Fazel says. “Anyone can afford the experience of wearing a couture dress.”

A major milestone for the brand came when Lafalux began working with the Hudson’s Bay Company. “It was a big step for me,” she says. Though the retailer has since closed its doors, the partnership marked an important turning point. Fazel continues to work independently alongside a dedicated team of seven women.

A deeply personal, one-on-one experience defines Lafalux. Fazel’s process begins with an hour-long consultation, during which she studies a client’s body shape, listens closely to their preferences, and guides them toward silhouettes that highlight their favourite features. She has a gift for addressing subtle concerns while accentuating each woman’s strengths. Every dress is sewn by hand using luxurious fabrics sourced from Italy, Turkey, and Dubai, and can take up to three weeks to complete. For returning clients, Lafalux creates custom mannequins, eliminating the need for repeated fittings.

As anyone who has worn a couture garment can attest, meticulous construction is about more than aesthetics; it’s about freedom. “In our clothing, you don’t even need to wear a bra,” Fazel says. Each design incorporates built-in cups and sculpted boning for seamless support. One bride’s reaction remains unforgettable. “After her wedding, she called me in tears,” Fazel says. “She said, ‘I’m 30 years old. I never had this experience in my life. I can dance all night and feel comfortable.’ ”

Fazel describes her aesthetic as “bold and luxurious,” yet the meaning behind her designs runs deeper. Her inspiration comes from the resilience of women in Iran. “We Persian women didn’t have that many opportunities to grow back home,” she says. “I am inspired by the hard-working women back home—women no one sees.” By collaborating with artisans in Iran, Fazel hopes to amplify their voices. “I’m trying to make [Lafalux] bigger and bigger so I can be the voice of Persian women. We are going to be seen in the world again.”

Ultimately, Lafalux Couture is about empowerment. “I’m doing this to give other women that power,” Fazel says, “so they can understand they are enough as they are right now. They have to love themselves first.” In Fazel’s world, fashion is more than fabric—it is armour, confidence, and a bold declaration of self-worth.
