A Foundation of Hope
After her daughter’s brain cancer diagnosis changed everything, Sarah Bankuti created Enchanted Hope Foundation to bring light, joy, and comfort to children and families navigating serious illness.

One evening at a busy market, I struck up a conversation with a woman I had just met. She was selling mermaid hair extensions, with proceeds supporting children experiencing hair loss due to illness or treatment. That shared sense of purpose created an instant connection.
Within minutes, it felt as though we had known each other for years—both of us passionate about creating space for people navigating difficult circumstances. It reminded me that some of the most meaningful partnerships begin in the most unexpected moments. That woman was Enchanted Hope Foundation founder Sarah Bankuti, and it’s an honour to tell her story.
As we spoke further, Bankuti opened up about how the foundation began during one of the hardest chapters of her life. When her daughter was diagnosed with brain cancer, everything changed overnight. Like so many families, they suddenly found themselves navigating hospital rooms, treatments, and unimaginable uncertainty.
In the midst of that experience, Bankuti realized families need more than medical care—they need hope, comfort, and connection. That understanding became the inspiration for Enchanted Hope Foundation.
“Even in the darkest moments, hope mattersóand no family should ever have to walk this journey alone.”
Today, the registered nonprofit supports children facing serious illness, along with the families who walk beside them through every step of the journey. Its mission is simple yet powerful: to bring light into dark seasons and create moments of courage and magic when life feels overwhelming.
One way the foundation brings that mission to life is through the donation of relatable children’s books and plushies distributed through children’s hospitals and POGO clinics across Ontario. These are more than gifts; they help children feel seen and understood during an isolating time. Most importantly, these items are always free of charge, so families can access small comforts without added financial stress.
Bankuti also shared the heart behind the foundation’s signature initiative, Enchanted Memories Day, which creates magical experiences for children and their siblings beyond hospital walls. For many families, it offers an opportunity to reconnect and simply enjoy time together again.
This September, the foundation will host its largest fundraiser of the year: the Enchanted Hope Gala, a celebration of bravery, resilience, and community support.
What resonated with me most after our conversation was this: Even in the darkest moments, hope matters—and no family should ever have to walk this journey alone.
