More than 200 of Toronto’s business leaders, philanthropists and changemakers gathered at the Bram & Bluma Appel Salon on May 29 for Moving Stories: A Luncheon for Changemakers. Hosted by Shelter Movers, the inaugural luncheon brought together the community in support of survivors of gender-based violence. The program featured keynote speaker Brandi Leifso, founder of Evio Beauty, who told her powerful story of resilience. “It never starts with a fist,” she reflected. “[For me] it started in subtle ways...until, slowly, I became a shell of myself.” Recalling the night she first reached out for help, Leifso remembers being asked if she was safe. “I said no. That single word hung in the air—heavy and final.” Proceeds from the luncheon support Shelter Movers’ national work, which provides free moving and storage services for individuals fleeing abuse.
