The Art of Wonder

Julie Amlin’s bold, colour-saturated canvases are an invitation to rediscover wonder, emotion, and the unapologetic freedom of the inner child.

Living Luxe (LL): What first drew you to art, and how has your artistic voice evolved over time?

Julie Amlin (JA): I made a joyous return to traditional art after working as a graphic designer in Montreal. The essence of unabashed play has been a steady current in my artistic voice since then, and the phrase “where creativity reigns” now stands at the heart of my work. I avoid expectations like the plague and allow my unbridled creativity to lead the way—always. This often results in a full-body expression of colour, whether in large-scale paintings or performance murals for live audiences who get to marvel at my creative process in real time.

LL: You speak about awakening the inner child through your work. What does that mean to you personally?

JA: Children lead with curiosity; they live in the present moment and follow their inner compass with unrelenting tenacity and determination. They express themselves freely and openly. As adults, living in our personal authenticity is often watered down by the expectations of society. We diminish our personal sovereignty over time until that childhood audacity is taught out of us. My work is a rebellious expression of my uninhibited inner child as well as an invitation to others to reawaken their own curiosity and wonder they may have left behind.

LL: In luxury interiors, art often becomes the emotional anchor of a space. How does your work influence the way people experience a room?

JA: I often describe my art as visual poetry, where vivid palettes and animated brushwork act as language—the result of synesthesia, where my experience of music and emotion translates into colour and movement on the canvas. My work resonates when a viewer recognizes something about themselves or their life’s journey within it. The art helps them access an important emotion and feel seen, understood, and supported, acting as a visual anchor to that feeling.
